Phillies’ Lidge reinjures knee

I just read, over at BravesBlast.com, that Phillies new closer Brad Lidge reinjured his knee after his first pitch on the mound.

I hate to admit a little happiness whenever I hear news of division rivals suffering from injuries, but it was somewhat good news to hear that the Phillies might not have a solid closer this year. The next thought that came to mind was sadness over our own spring training injuries the past few years. Mike Hampton has continued to report good health this year, but memories of years past die hard. Let’s hope that this year is different and that Hampton can over come his injury. The Braves need him this year more than ever.

I can definitely relate to your feelings on Mike Hampton. I’d absolutely love to see him stay healthy and finally show what he’s made of around Atlanta. It’s been painful over the past couple of years to see him go down with injuries and not be able to go the distance at all. Let’s hope for the best there.

As for Lidge, the Braves can definitely relate to not having a solid closer and we’ve seen how that has affected us in the past. With Lidge having surgery and out 3-6 weeks, we’ll see how that affects the Phillies for the top part of the season.

Thanks for swinging by BravesBlast. We’ve just rolled out a new site design and look forward to bringing a lot more content your way throughout the season.

Jonathan, thanks for bring up more bad memories from last year! Losing games because of our bullpen last year, was like being in a bad reoccuring dream.
